There is no evidence that monkey pox is spread through occasional interactions such as talking or in public places such as grocery stores, Raj Panjabi, the White House’s director of global health and biosecurity, told a news conference Friday. Concerns about smallpox in monkeys are growing as the virus spreads to more than 1,000 cases worldwide. No deaths have been reported. In the US, there have been 45 known cases since Friday. Most of them are linked to contact with an infected person or travel to another country where cases have been reported, officials said. The United States is working to expand its testing programs with the help of private companies, Center for Disease Control and Prevention director Rosell Wallenski told the call. The US is also working to increase vaccine supplies, although the Strategic National Reserve already has several doses of Emergent BioSolutions Inc. ACAM2000. and Jynneos of Bavarian Nordic A / S – both of which can be used against monkeypox – to vaccinate millions of Americans if necessary, officials said. © 2022 Bloomberg LP
