A status hearing is set for Nov. 28 and a preliminary hearing for Dec. 14. DePape is charged with six counts related to the attack, including attempted murder, burglary, assault, false imprisonment and threatening a family member of a public official. He pleaded not guilty to all state charges. Bail was not discussed during Friday’s hearing. DePape is currently being held without bond. It’s unclear whether DePape will plead an insanity defense, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said when asked by CNN’s Erin Burnett. “He laid out exactly what he did and why, so he was very clear about his intentions, why he had those intentions and exactly what he planned to do,” Jenkins told the “Erin Burnett Outfront” on Friday. referring to DePape’s voluntary statements to police. Jenkins said it’s not unusual for defense attorneys to explore all options to defend their clients, but added, “I don’t think we can say for sure at this point that he didn’t know what he was doing.” The brutal attack on Pelosi was condemned on both sides of the aisle and raises new concerns about the safety of lawmakers and their families in the current political climate of increasingly hostile political rhetoric. Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday that her husband has been released from the hospital. “Paul remains under the care of doctors as he continues a long recovery and recovery process. He is now at home surrounded by his family who is asking for privacy,” a statement from the Speaker of the House said. After the attack, Paul Pelosi underwent surgery “to repair a fractured skull and serious injuries to his right arm and hands,” Drew Hamill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi, said in an earlier statement. Pelosi was attacked with a hammer at the couple’s San Francisco home, and disturbing new details have emerged about the incident, including that the alleged assailant told police he was on a “suicide mission” and had a list of other high-profile targets. Court documents released Tuesday show DePape allegedly woke up Paul Pelosi by standing by his bed and prevented him from escaping — all while demanding to know the whereabouts of the House speaker. DePape told the officers and medics on the scene that he was fed up with the “level of lies” coming from Washington, D.C. and “came here to have a little chat with [Pelosi’s] wife,” according to Tuesday’s court filing. During the hearing it was revealed that Judge Loretta M. Giorgi previously worked with Pelosi’s daughter, Christine, in the San Francisco City Attorney’s office in the 1990s. Giorgi said she has “not seen, not heard or talk to Ms. Pelosi” since then.
