It’s worth reading the full exchange that just took place during an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: Interviewer: Do you think for sure, for sure, she will be the one to get you in this election? Ms Trevelyan said: “We all stand firmly with her to continue to deliver the government’s work.” Interviewer: It’s not the same, is it? Ms Trevelyan said: “As I say, we want to stand with her to deliver the government’s jobs and we want to allow Jeremy Hunt 10 days to put together a budget that will be balanced and ensure we can continue to deliver services front line while facing the challenges and costs we know we have to sustain with the inflationary global prices we are seeing. So there are tough, tough decisions to come and tough delivery schedules to go on and that’s what we all want to do.” Interviewer: People will have heard the fact that you can’t answer this question with a yes. Do you think it will definitely carry you into the next general election? Ms Trevelyan said: “That’s what we’re going to work towards and we hope we can do it, while also doing it so the British people understand exactly why it’s important to support the Conservative agenda.” Interviewer: You hope but you don’t believe? Ms Trevelyan said: “I am a politician. I’m all for delivery.” Interviewer: But I can’t say if the prime minister will definitely lead you to the next election? Ms Trevelyan said: “As I say, we are all about delivery and Liz’s plan is extremely clear. The Prime Minister has stated that the implementation of development policies is absolutely critical to ensure that our economy can thrive, get through this difficult winter and that is what we need to focus on because if we don’t do that we can’t support both public services us as well as those like Ukraine, which we want to continue to support as they struggle to maintain their democratic right to be an independent nation. These are the things a Prime Minister has to deal with alongside supporting everyday life. Sometimes there is turbulence. We will stand with her to fight back and implement these incredibly important policies that make a difference.”
