The Siu Is Investigating After An Officer Involved Shooting In Woodbridge

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said York Regional Police (YRP) received a report of a suspicious vehicle in an industrial plaza on Hanlan Street, located near Pine Valley Drive, around 8am.
YRP initially said officers responded to a weapons call.
Two YRP officers rushed to the scene and an interaction ensued between the officers and a 44-year-old man.
Both officers then discharged their firearms, striking the man multiple times while he was outside the vehicle, the SIU said. 
The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition, the SIU said.
The SIU has assigned three investigators and two medical examiners to the case.  So far, two officers and one witness officer have been appointed.
The sheriff’s office is asking any witnesses or anyone with video or dash cam footage of the incident to contact them at 1-800-787-8529 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
The SIU is an independent state agency that investigates police officer conduct that may have resulted in the death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or discharge of a firearm at a person.
