The US Department of Justice charged David DePape, 42, with assault and attempted kidnapping. The two charges carry up to 50 years in prison, the department said. According to court documents, DePape told police he was going to hold Ms. Pelosi hostage and talk to her. If she told him the ‘truth’ he would let her go, and if she ‘lied’ he would ‘break her knees’. DePape is accused of breaking into the Pelosi home in San Francisco on Friday and assaulting Paul Pelosi, 82. He confronted Pelosi as he slept in the couple’s bedroom, according to the federal affidavit filed in court Monday. He reported that DePape said he considered Ms. Pelosi to be the “leader of the pack” of lies told by the Democratic Party. She is also said to have explained that by breaking her knees, she would then have to be taken to Congress, which would show that other members of Congress were facing consequences for their actions. Police said officers were called to the home for a “welfare check” early Friday and arrived to find both men wielding the hammer. They said the suspect then pulled the hammer from Pelosi and used it to “violently assault” him, before being tackled by officers. “Where’s Nancy?” At one point the suspect sought out the Democratic leader, yelling, “Where’s Nancy?
