New Mexico Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is the most recent example, singing in a recent video with Camila Cabello from “The Voice.”
“Why do they keep doing this,” wondered National Review writer Nate Hochman, who shared Cortez Masto’s reel on Twitter.
“I’m a one-issue voter, and that issue is that political candidates don’t sing, dance, or do TikToks,” Hochman wrote.

“To be fair, politicians CAN sound like lip-syncing phonies,” joked NewsBusters executive editor Tim Graham.
Other prominent Democrats tried to leverage social media in an effort to get out the vote before Tuesday. Former President Barack Obama appeared in a TikTok video this week made by content creator Vitus Spehar, which was mocked as “painful” and funny.

In Texas, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke has released videos promoting his campaign message on gun control, Medicaid expansion and protecting abortion access. Some of his videos feature advocates sharing their stories to connect with voters. Others show women proclaiming their support for abortion, then flirting with O’Rourke dancing suggestively.
