Fadairo reportedly fought with Essien before he was shot in front of his son. The accused allegedly fled with the victim’s son still in the back seat and then abandoned the vehicle with the child inside.

Officers found the car five hours after Essien was shot dead with its doors locked and windows rolled up as temperatures in the city reached 32 degrees Celsius, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the store. Fadairo allegedly tried to destroy some text messages between himself and Essien before his arrest, the report said, with officers confirming the two men had arranged to meet. The reason for the meeting is unknown.

“Michael never argued with anybody,” said Essien’s sister, Jessie. “Michael would take off his shirt and give it to other people,” she said. “He gives his last penny to other people.” Essien’s wife reported her husband and son missing around 6:40 Tuesday afternoon, hours after he was allegedly shot multiple times by Fadairo. Investigators believe the child died of heat exhaustion, but an autopsy will confirm the cause of death. Essien and his wife have two other children – a five-year-old son and a daughter who was born just last week. “A mother lost her husband and lost her two-year-old child,” Houston Police Assistant Chief Larry Satterwhite told reporters. “We never knew about the kid until he called us,” she continued. “Unfortunately, it was too late. The child had passed in the car.”
