According to AHS, Tres Carnales Taqueria was closed on Oct. 31 after officials found several violations of provincial health and food regulations.
The inspection report, dated November 2, noted there was evidence of a “significant” pest infestation, with mouse droppings found in several areas of the restaurant and traps “full of live and dead” cockroaches.
Other deficiencies included failure to store food utensils to prevent vermin contamination, evidence of water leaking from some plumbing fixtures, gaps in the rear kitchen outlet that allowed vermin to move in, and broken floor tiles in the kitchen.
“Grunge, grease, debris, food particles and dirt accumulate on kitchen equipment, food storage carts, walls, floor and ceiling of the facility,” the AHS closure order states.
AHS ordered the facility to remain closed until the owners can work with a licensed pest control company to eliminate the infestation and deep clean the entire restaurant.
The public notice of the AHS closure order aired Saturday, November 5, 2022 (CTV News Edmonton/Sean McClune).
The restaurant was also expected to reorganize the basement storage area to facilitate cleaning and pest control.
On Saturday night, a public notice of the closing order was visible on the restaurant’s front doors.
Tres Carnales said in a statement posted on its storefront that it will remain “temporarily closed” and that staff are working “quickly” to fix the problems with the property manager.
“As always, the best culinary and service experience for our guests and positive working conditions for our team are our priorities,” the statement said.
As of publication, AHS listed the closure order as inactive, which it defines as meaning that necessary repairs had been completed.
