Firefighters were called to the A377 Alphington Road, which is now closed in both directions due to a modular fire in the truck. Smoke billows along the road from the A30 (Alphington Junction) to the Sainsbury’s gas station. A spokesman for the fire brigade confirmed that an articulated truck was on fire and that six vehicles had been called to the A377 roundabout. The aerial ladder has now been requested. Two breathing apparatus are used, jets and a “fog pin”. Locals in the area say they have seen the smoke and there is “a horrible smell of burnt metal and rubber”. Updates below as we receive them:
