Trump made the inflammatory statement praising the rioters who stormed the Capitol in hopes of keeping him in the White House for a second term on Thursday. He appeared on his own platform, Truth Social, which he started posting earlier this year because he was banned from Twitter and most major social networking sites. The twice-accused former president also complained that the House selection committee “did not spend a single minute studying why people went to Washington, DC, in huge numbers”, although his claim is false because a group of committee investigators has examining the relationship between the lies he started telling about the conduct of the 2020 elections and the unrest that occurred on January 6, 2021. Trump also issued statements in which he made a series of baseless complaints about previous investigations into his behavior by Democrats and the Justice Department. In one, he complained that the selection committee “refused to study and cite the vast amount of incontrovertible evidence, much of which has recently been produced, showing that the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged and stolen.” While it is true that the selection committee has not studied such data, this is due to the fact that the data do not exist. Officials from the Trump administration itself have repeatedly stressed that the 2020 election was the safest in American history, but the defeated former president continued to lie about it and insisted that he was unjustly robbed of a second term. Late Thursday, after the committee’s hearing ended on January 6, Mr. Trump made a new statement calling the committee members “HACKS.” “So the Unselect Committee of Policy HACKS refuses to play any of the many positive witnesses and statements, refuses to talk about massive electoral fraud and irregularities and decides to use a documentary from Fake News ABC to do spins only negative material. “Our country is in such problems!”
