Earlier, he used the platform to claim that the commission “refuses to play any of the many positive witnesses and statements, refuses to talk about electoral fraud and irregularities that took place on a large scale”, before adding: “Our country is in such trouble! “ At a hearing Thursday, President Bennie Thompson (D-MS) directly blamed Trump for the Capitol attack after the 2020 election. “It promoted a mob of domestic enemies of the Constitution to descend on the Capitol and undermine American democracy,” Thompson said. Cheney’s spokesman further added that Trump’s repeated allegations that the election had been stolen were the reason for the attack. “Those who invaded our Capitol and fought law enforcement for hours were motivated by what President Trump had told them: that the election was stolen and that he was the legitimate president,” Cheney said in her opening remarks. “President Trump called the mob, gathered the mob and lit the flame of this attack.”
