Former Twitter employees have spoken of brutal layoffs under new owner Elon Musk, but the platform’s co-founder Jack Dorsey said he is to blame. In a Saturday tweet, Dorsey took responsibility for Musk cutting thousands of jobs during his first week of ownership of the social media site. — jack (@jack) November 5, 2022 Dorsey continued to express his gratitude for Twitter employees in a follow-up tweet soon after. “I am grateful and love everyone who has ever worked at Twitter. I don’t expect this to be mutual right now…or ever…and I understand,” he wrote. Twitter employees criticized the company online, claiming they were fired with little to no notice, with some telling Insider they lost access to their laptops before receiving notice they were terminated. In a tweet on Friday, Musk said he had “no choice” but to cut Twitter’s workforce as the company was losing $4 million a day. Although Musk faced backlash over the surprise layoffs, he maintained that the company offered those affected a severance package. “Everyone who left was offered 3 months severance, which is 50% longer than required by law,” Musk tweeted. —Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 4, 2022 Despite the chaotic staffing changes during the week, former employees also expressed their love of work on Twitter before Musk took over.
