Twitter employees are flooding the Blind employee forum with bad — and some good — reviews of the company and its new CEO, Elon Musk.
Insider wandered into the community app, where employees can anonymously write reviews and post about their workplaces, to see what Twitter staff are saying about the company.
Twitter laid off thousands of employees on Friday as Elon Musk completed a $44 billion takeover of the platform. After laying off nearly half of Twitter’s workforce, Musk tweeted on Friday that there was “no choice” as the company was losing more than $4 million a day.
Blind requires users to provide their work email address, the company they work for, and their job title when signing up. The site doesn’t verify employment, but asks people to use their work email to “measure employment status” of users, Blind’s website says.
Users have posted a total of 953 Twitter reviews on the site since 2020, and the company has an overall star rating of 3.8 out of 5 stars. Each poster adds a star rating to their review. Some of the reviews were posted on the day some staff learned of the mass layoffs the following morning, but the majority are from earlier.
A poster describing themselves as an engineering manager said on Wednesday: “Brutal decision-maker at the wheel. Contingency-driven work is exciting for thrill-seekers. Pay no longer tied to stock market swings.”
The anonymous poster, who gave Twitter a two-star rating, added: “The utter and rapid destruction of a compassionate, humane company culture leaves Tweeps feeling like we’ve lost our family.”
Another user, who posted on the day the company sent staff a memo announcing layoffs, said it was “good until Elon took over.”
The self-proclaimed senior software developer described “working for Elon” as a “pro” of working at the company, and then being treated like a “job robot” in an accompanying list of “cons.”
“A sense of accomplishment in delivering mission-critical projects while working 24/7 and sleeping at the desk,” the post said.
A Twitter employee tweeted a photo of an executive sleeping in the office this week after Musk took over. Musk announced plans to launch new product features, including an $8 verification subscription.
A software engineer said on Nov. 2 that before the company went private, it was an “incredible” place to work.
They added: “Elon’s mother is trashing Musk and his Mars-sized ego. Twitter is already a mess, but come layoffs on Friday, it’s going to be a dumpster fire. The man has no idea what he’s doing and I’d bet Twitter it will be $8″ It won’t be around or relevant in a few years.”
It is not possible to tell which of these posters, if any, had been fired.
Another Blind user wrote on Thursday that management changes are creating “stress” as a result of people getting fired or resigning.
Twitter did not respond to Insider’s request for comment.
