Twitter’s new boss Elon Musk will begin massive layoffs at the company on Friday, just days after closing a deal to buy the social media giant for $44 billion. Thousands of workers at the company could lose their jobs, with staff informed of the layoffs by email on Thursday, according to multiple US media reports. “Team, In an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path, we will be going through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday,” the internal memo to employees noted. “We recognize that this will affect a number of people who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company’s success going forward.” Mr Musk has already made several changes at the company, starting with the firing of three top executives, including chief executive Parag Agrawal. He had earlier told prospective investors he intended to cut the company’s staff from about 7,500 to just over 2,000. Bloomberg reported Thursday that it planned to cut about 3,700 jobs at Twitter — about half the company’s workforce. Show latest update 1667547607
Employees quickly try to disconnect their Twitter accounts and work emails
Twitter staff are reportedly trying to quickly unlink their accounts on the platform from their work emails, as the company mandates that both be logged in. Multiple reports suggest that workers are starting to realize they’ve been fired from the fact that their work credentials aren’t working. The company said in a note earlier that it was laying off employees in “an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path.” “It’s total chaos, the house is melting down, everyone’s looking at this email,” one employee said, according to NBCNews. Twitter sued for mass layoffs without enough notice
Twitter has reportedly been sued over new boss Elon Musk’s plan to cut thousands of jobs at the company. A class-action lawsuit was filed Thursday in federal court in San Francisco, Bloomberg News reported. Anticipating the layoff of more than half the company’s workforce on Friday, some Twitter employees are reportedly calling the day “The Snap,” in reference to the Marvel villain’s extermination of half of life in the universe. Casey Newton, former editor of The Verge, tweeted that dozens of Twitter employees are also posting possible farewell messages on Slack. “We appreciate your input on Twitter and your patience as we move through this process,” Twitter reportedly told its staff.
