The Met Office has warned that persistent heavy rain could lead to flooding of homes and businesses and affect public transport in an area stretching from Chichester in West Sussex to Canterbury in Kent. Forecasters said the rain was likely to be heaviest on Sunday in southeast England during the morning before clearing in the afternoon. A Met Office spokesman said: “South England and the south-east have seen a fairly heavy band of rain moving quite slowly. Then it’s going to be a day of blustery showers, with thunderstorms at times, so it’s going to be a wet day ahead.” In the NE Midlands and NE England, the fog is expected to clear slowly with sunshine and showers, with some risk of thunderstorms mainly in the west, the rest of the day. The Met Office said Monday was forecast to be mostly cloudy with rain in the west, becoming “very windy” later while it remained brighter in the east.
