Justin Terry, 45, was on duty in an unmarked Las Vegas police car when he died in a tragic accident the department called US 95 near the 215 Beltway junction in northwest Las Vegas. Police said Terry joined the department in 2001 and was currently assigned to the homicide sex crimes office. He was also involved in a detail of the arrest of sex offenders and collaborated with a working group of American Soldiers. The married father of two was also credited with launching a police cycling program that allowed police to drive to inaccessible locations in the desert to find and serve the homeless. Las Vegas Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that passersby tried to help before paramedics and Nevada Highway Patrol soldiers arrived after the incident at 7 a.m. Justin Hopkins, a Nevada Department of Transportation official, told the newspaper that a large piece of construction equipment towed to a trailer removed the beam that had been placed as a height warning for trucks approaching the overtaking zone.
