Video credit: Katarzyna Bialach Staff at Doncaster Sheffield Airport shared a touching video as they said goodbye to one of the last flights. The flight to Tenerife – attended by dozens of projects – was the last Tui service to leave the airport when it took off on the evening of Friday 28 October. Airport owners Peel Group have rejected a bid for public funding to keep it open until next year and have confirmed that flights will start to end from tomorrow (October 31) as they say the business is no longer financially viable. Wizz Air and Tui, the two airlines that use the airport, have no scheduled departures and the flight’s final arrival will be on November 4. South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard, who has found investors to secure the future of the airport, says: “The airport is hugely important to the economy, it’s hugely important to the way we grow our economy and yet if we lose it will be a problem. “ He added: “We are trying our best, we have offered Peel money to keep the airport open, now we need Peel to do the right thing.” Want a quick and special update on the biggest news?
