The winds, which are expected to peak on Saturday, will extend from western Scotland to the south east of England. Met Office meteorologist Simon Partridge said it was unusual to have such an “intense low-pressure system”. “It’s very windy this weekend – it’s actually blowing unusually,” he said. The turbulent weather is the result of the former tropical storm Alex, the first so-called Atlantic storm this year, which killed three people in Cuba at its height. Scotland will suffer Alex’s heaviest weight, with eight stormy winds forecast to upset ferries. “It brings some pretty big seas,” Mr Partridge said. “It will really be very sunny in the next few days. Without the wind it would be very nice, but the wind will blow the edge away a bit.” Check the forecast for where you are However, the South East could see temperatures up to 24 C (75.2 F), while central and southern England would be around 22 C (71.6 F) or 23 C (73.4 F). The winds are expected to subside from Sunday, as the remnants of storm Alex continue to move north.
