A Kelowna-born woman is demanding changes be made to the Trans Canada Highway in Field BC after eight people were killed in the past eight months, including her husband. Dee Morrison thought she would have more time with her husband Scott, but after 28 years together, Scott’s life ended tragically on the morning of February 5 when Scott’s truck was hit head-on by a turning cube truck. He was on his way to Kelowna to see his wife. “He was an amazing person. He helped everyone and he was my best friend. He was my everything, and if it wasn’t for him I don’t know where I would be,” Dee told Castanet. Dee says eight lives lost in eight months should be cause for concern, calling the highway through Field one of the most dangerous roads in Canada. “I want meridians. If there was a meridian among them [two lanes] my husband would still be here. This is what we need. We need this barrier so that when something like this happens again, we at least have a chance for our loved ones to come home. Without meridians we don’t have this opportunity.” Dee also notes that the speed limit should be lowered. Signs in the area show a maximum speed limit of 100kmh, but he says people often drive too fast. “If you’re traveling through the Field, please watch out for truckers coming past you. And please, please, please, slow down. That’s all I can say. Slow down,” he said. Dee says that the regularity of these accidents brings sadness to her heart and that it is shocking that nothing has been done until now. Every time she hears bad news on this stretch of road, her own tragic experience comes rushing back. “I know exactly what these families are going through. Every time it happens it’s like my husband dies again,” she told Castanet. Castanet has reached out to the City of Field, BC for comment.
