Const. Yvan Corriveau, 39, was arrested at his home in Ile-des-Chênes, Manitoba RCMP spokeswoman Tara Seel said by phone Friday. Mounties said in a news release Friday afternoon that they executed a search warrant at the home after the RCMP’s online child exploitation unit received several complaints from the RCMP’s national child exploitation crime center about the possession of child pornography in southern Manitoba. Corriveau was charged with possession, access, possession and distribution of written child pornography, the release said. A judge then released him on parole. Seel said RCMP seized evidence at Corriveau’s home, but would not elaborate on what they found. In a news release, the Winnipeg Police Service said it learned Friday morning that Corriveau had died. His death is not being treated as criminal in nature, police said. No further information was released on how he died. Winnipeg police said they learned Thursday of the allegations against Corriveau, who has been a Winnipeg police officer for 15 years. The Manitoba Independent Investigation Unit, which reviews all serious incidents involving on-duty and off-duty officers in the province, has been notified, the Winnipeg Police Service said. Seel said that while charges against Corriveau cannot go forward now that he is dead, the investigation will continue. “So if any leads in this investigation turn up other suspects or other victims, it will be followed up,” he said.
